If you do not wish to purchase car insurance through a licensed agent, you can establish your financial responsibility in several other ways. You can file a surety bond with the county clerk in your area. The bond must include two people who own property in the state of Texas.

If you own more than 25 cars you can certify with the Texas Department of Transportation that you are self insured. This option is mainly used by car dealers.
